The way we manage the thoughts we think in our personal and professional lives, and especially as women entrepreneurs, will determine the trajectory of our life. “You can be the Air Traffic Controller of your mental airport. You can occupy the control tower and direct the mental traffic of your world.” --Max Lucado I am inspired by author and minister Max Lucado’s quote. He says that this can be accomplished by owning the truth – that although we didn’t choose when, where or to whom we were born, we do have the dominion power to choose what we think about. Using the analogy of our thoughts being like airplanes and our minds like the landing strip, thoughts circle your mind, coming and going. If one of them lands, or departs after landing, it’s because you directed it to do so. You are the Air Traffic Controller and you are in control of selecting your own thought patterns. As a flight attendant, I am highly aware of the vital role of air traffic controllers. If they are off their game, out of focus, distracted for even a moment, it can cause a catastrophe! The way we manage the thoughts we think in our personal and professional lives, and especially as women entrepreneurs, will determine the trajectory of our life. By cultivating and maintaining a healthy, focused, rejuvenated mindset, we can navigate our lives with clarity and purpose, landing in places we truly desire to be. I am currently navigating through a journey of Alzheimer’s with my husband. It overlaps the decade-long journey of helping to care for my mama, and years earlier my “mother-in-love.” As you can imagine, the impact of care-giving on my mental health and well-being has been profoundly and intensely challenging. My experience of “Living Grief “ while witnessing my husband’s decline is just one of the many painful pieces on my journey. I also am experiencing the loss of our life-style of traveling to exotic destinations, and the loss of the freedom to create precious, priceless memories while enjoying each other’s company. I am also besieged by daily stress and anxiety over his well-being, growing financial concerns, emotion-laden family dynamics, numerous moments of overwhelm, and of course emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion. These are all part of the turbulence I am encountering along my journey. BUT GOD! I’m able to steer my way through all of this while maintaining my job as a flight attendant and building my own businesses. By the grace, wisdom and faithfulness of the Creator of Creation, and my active faith and hope, I am boldly soaring through this unexpected, yet pre-charted course, by taking time to think about what I’m thinking about. I am very discerning and do not allow negative and despairing thoughts to land on my mind. So you, my precious Sister, have the opportunity to choose the course you want to travel and what thoughts you will or will not allow to land on your mind. You have the ability to access and activate faith and hope, which is wired inside of your DNA, to maneuver through whatever challenging and painful part of your life’s journey you’re currently on. Here are 3 key daily practices that I believe are vital to our success as entrepreneurs: 1) Vigilance – it is essential that we choose to stay awake and alert, for this serves as a critical foundation for maintaining safety, monitoring well-being, and recognizing and seizing opportunities 2) Adaptability –this enables easy navigation through expected and unexpected change, and for overcoming obstacles and thriving amidst uncertainties 3) Decision Making –being decisive turns our ideas into strategies that guide our actions for effective and successful navigation of challenges and adversities, ensuring our well-being and achievement of desired outcomes “Regret for the things we did can be tempered by time, but it is regret for the things we did not do that is inconsolable.” -–William A. Ward, inspirational author Be IN Courage!, precious one. Trust the Creator’s flight plan for your life by mastering your mental airport so you can soar to your destiny!
