The Reverend, Dr. Alicia Simpson, DHA, RRT-RCP is founder and Senior Pastor of Refuge Temple of Prayer, located in Chandler, Arizona. She is the spiritual shepherd and chief steward of a mission-driven approach to walking in faith. Reverend Simpson has a background in Health Care, and holds a doctorate in Health Administration from the University of Phoenix, AZ. During her 30+ years in the health administration field, she has led and contributed to several clinical quality and patient safety initiatives across various healthcare settings, using data analysis, process improvement, and stakeholder collaboration skills. She has also helped to streamline and enhance processes, implement new standards of care, and achieve performance objectives for organizations such as Banner Health and Southwest Endoscopy & Surgery Center. She continues to teach and mentor health care professionals and students. As a Senior Pastor and Educator at Refuge Temple of Prayer, she combines her passion for motivating and leading people to Christ with her expertise in quality management and health care administration. This fast-growing church provides spiritual guidance, community outreach, education, and other needed social services to diverse and under-served populations. In just a little over three years, Reverend Dr. Simpson has fostered spiritual growth and initiated community development for and with her congregation. Since its opening, this small church has already made quite an impact! In addition to providing the expected church services of bible study, Sunday school classes, and youth ministry, they have helped people find jobs, provided nutritious meals for the sick, cared for babies, supported refugees, collected supplies for Arizona Helping Hands, and facilitated mobile blood drives in conjunction with the American Red Cross. Reverend Simpson is a social entrepreneur, meaning that she has established an enterprise with the aim of solving social problems and effecting social change. The members of Refuge Temple of Prayer spend more time outside of their four walls than inside them, doing what they can to help the community thrive. There are two additional programs currently in development that have emerged from Reverend Simpson caring so deeply for the individuals and communities of the East Valley in Arizona. The church is assisting in the eradication of the so-called “Zone” of unhoused Arizonans. Church members have taken on the mission of direct outreach to, and making the sanctuary available and safe for, at-risk or unhoused women in need of shelter. Reverend Simpson is also working with the City of Chandler, and the Governor’s Office of Arizona to facilitate the creation of the Academy for Leaders, a non-profit tutoring and study center to support and strengthen the learning abilities of children. The Reverend Dr. Simpson approaches leadership and stewardship from a cross sectional perspective. Her current focus as the servant leader at the Refuge Temple of Prayer is on the spiritual, physical, and mental/emotional needs of individuals and the surrounding communities. She is clearly able to be as forthright and successful as she is because her life is full of faith, purpose, and her inspiring dedication to human service.
